DON’T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER’S DEAD + BELGIAN WAFFLES

Dishes are DONE, man! It was so fun to rewatch this very quotable movie (I’m right on top of that Rose). Fun fact: the original title for this movie was The Real World which was scrapped to avoid confusion with the MTV series.

Directed by: Stephen Herek

Starring: Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy, John Getz, Josh Charles, and Keith Coogan

Screenplay by: Neil Landau and Tara Ison

Kenny Crandell: “Check these babies out - beautiful Belgian waffles. Julia made ‘em on her show yesterday.”

Belgian Waffles (recipe from Sweet Tea + Thyme: https://www.sweetteaandthyme.com/best-belgian-waffles-recipe/)

2 1/4 c. flour

1 tbsp. baking powder

1/4 c. granulated sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tbsp. cinnamon

2 eggs, separated

1/2 c. vegetable oil

2 c. milk

2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat the waffle iron to level 4 1/2 (I used a Cuisinart Classic Waffle Maker) and spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

Whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla.

Whisk the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and then gently fold in the egg whites with a rubber spatula.

Pour between 1/2 c. and 2/3 c. of the batter into the waffle maker and cook according to your waffle maker’s instructions.
